"CRUCIBLE"

by dharris 8. July 2010 15:24

It's true, though it did not start out this way, the title of the weekly blog has become a word game and a prayer -- "God give me a word that depicts the fresh thing you are speaking to me through Kay's book and your Word this week (and if it can rhyme, that would be awesome!)".

So "crucible" -- A severe test, as of patience or belief; a trial.  We all have faced, or are facing, or will face our "crucible."

My stepson just trained last summer for 13 solid intense weeks to be a United States Marine, and at the end of that time, in order to prove that he could stand strong and face what lay ahead as a Marine, his last test was called "The Crucible."  It called for strength beyond what he mentally thought that he had to give, and demanded even physical stamina that he had never known before, which together would prepare him for the tasks ahead.  Those who passed the test, by refusing to give up, were honored and given the opportunity to serve their country -- I am proud to say that Brant was one!

God's Word teaches us similarly and prepares us so aptly to face our trials, but facing the "crucible" is still a feat because it goes against our nature!  Paul says to "count it joy when you face trials" and that is just not natural or normal!  I don't think Brant woke up on that last morning while it was still dark, and upon facing this 54 consecutive hours of training called "The Crucible" exclaimed,  "I am so excited to experience this excruciating test of a lifetime".  I do know, however, that because he loves the Lord and trusts Him that he willingly walked through what he was asked to do, knowing it was for a purpose, and asked for God's help to make it through to the finish line, and he counted on Him to see him through, while giving it everything he had.

We must do the same if we have any hope of making it through!  We must not give up!   We must walk straight ahead and ask God for the help we need and trust that He is our refuge and has a plan even when we cannot see it!  I love Ps 9:9-10, "The Lord also will be a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble; and those who know Your name will put their trust in You, for You, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You".  We can count on Him as we face our "crucibles" of life!

I was so thrilled to be able to talk with several ladies throughout this week who in our conversation were reminded that the trial is not the end, but the means to the end!  God uses the tough times to make us more like Him.  We must embrace the cross, or "kiss the cross" as Kay put it and be willing to identify with Christ in His suffering, even though that does not come naturally.  He absolutely IS enough for us to make it through!   And He is watching!  II Chronicles 16:9 says that "His eyes are searching back and forth across the whole earth, looking for people whose hearts are loyal to Him, so that He can show His great power in helping them!"  He wants us to succeed -- He wants us to get to the other side of our "crucible" so that we can brag on Him -- He wants to "show off" His great power in helping us!  But we must be willing to walk through anticipating the great lessons we will learn because of it!

On the other side of my own personal "crucible" I certainly do not say "I would like to do that again!"  I DO, however, say if I had to experience it all over again, I would not want it any other way because of the lessons I learned, the discipline that developed, and the testimony in my heart to God's faithfulness (Ps 9:9-10 is very true!).   I learned an invaluable lesson that I probably only could have learned through a "crucible" -- in my darkest moment, out of desperation, I learned to "choose not to focus on my unbelievable circumstances, but rather to focus on my unbelievable God!"  If you begin rehearsing all the unbelievable things about God (and even list them), it does not take very long to change your perspective, and that is what God has always wanted -- our eyes on Him as we make our way through this world to one day see, and finally know, Him face to face!

So as my best-best would say, "focus up!"

PS  I've heard from many of you via email, but the blog has been rather quiet -- I'm just going to assume that you are so busy enjoying Kay's book and God's Word that you haven't gotten to it, and that is ok!

My life is not the same today partly because of this study. It has helped me walk the walk that my Jesus has put before me. I have 3 women/mentors in my life – each one different than the other but they each put Jesus first in their lives – that have also been a part of my growth. At times the enemy of my soul tries to call me unworthy because of my past, before loving Christ. But I stand firm against his lies with my sword – The Word of God.

2 Corinthians 4:6-11:
6  For God, who said, “Light shall shine out of darkness,” is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. 7  But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves; 8  we are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not despairing; 9  persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; 10  always carrying about in the body the dying of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. 11  For we who live are constantly being delivered over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh.

I have learned that the temptations and testing of our faith can all be used for the good of those who love God. To help us “embrace the cross”, defeat our “Goliaths” and not tolerate evil. Then all this will lead us to our calling – to share the gospel with those around us. WOW – I am so thankful for this study, the faithful women who have embraced me and God for being my heavenly Father!
And Debbie, thank you so much for your faithfulness to us in your emails.

With a heart full of gratitude (and a big happy smile),
Rosie ;o)

Today I read the chapter, "When It Seems Nothing Will Ever Change," and it spoke to me on so many levels. That's the beauty of this study; God's flashlight searches my heart and speaks to me as if it was written only for me. I love it. Here are the key points that jumped out at me:

~ "Is there any chance of being assured that you’re being used of God so that when your life is over, you’ll know that it hasn’t been in vain?"  I think about that sometimes and wonder how God views my life. Whenever I wonder if I'm doing enough for Him, He always reminds me that it’s the little, everyday things that are making an impact for His kingdom, too—like the “chance” meetings at a conference I attended last weekend, when I sat with two young moms and just listened. The Lord showed me how to comfort and encourage them by saying very little. That came from Him, and I was His conduit.  I don’t always feel that way, though. Sometimes I beat myself up and wonder if I should be doing more.  I loved this chapter because it reminded me that I need to continue giving each day away to HIM, and He will use me in ways I could never have planned myself.

~I also like where Kay wrote about the Cross, how it’s a message of victory to the world, and that we’re to speak about it when we have the opportunity, but also “underline it with our lives”.  I like that wording, because it reminds me of that saying—"the bottom line". The Cross and what it represents is the most important thing to remember.

~This made my heart soar:  “And, Beloved, if you will embrace your cross, your life will have an eternal impact.” I needed to hear that, because I sometimes compare myself to others. God knows my “bent,” though, and what makes me tick.  He uses us all differently, and that is why we’re the Body made up of different parts, each important in its own way.  I can’t compare what I do (or don’t do) to anyone else.  Period.

~”Nothing is more important than pleasing Him.”

That last line says it all.  Praise the Lord!  When his gaze falls on me, it’s as if I’m the only person in the world.  Same with you and every other person.  I love that one-on-One relationship.  The God of the Universe loves ME!  It is a huge thought.

What a blessing this study is! Thank you, Debbie, for this blog. It's a wonderful outlet.  And thank you, my dear friend Glenda, for inviting me to join you in this summer study! You're a treasure.

That is what keeps me on track with God's perspective, focusing UP!  I can easily get distracted and focused on the temporal and on my circumstance which takes my focus off Him. When I find myself getting out of focus, I quickly and quietly look up -- and when I do I quickly see an amazing sky that is created by our amazing God! He is the Creator of the Heaven's and Earth and all that is in it -- when you meditate on that for a moment...everything else is soooo small...even the tough circumstances we find ourselves in.
So the next time you find yourself a bit out of focus join me and simply look up and praise Him for the Heaven's and the Earth!!!
