QUIET TIME AGAIN in SUMMER 10

"Speak to my Heart God" -- may it be our prayer, our plea, our experience, and our song for this summer!

Welcome to the summer study!  You are among over 350 women scattered all over the county, into several states, and even into other parts of the world such as Indonesia, Africa and the West Indies!  All with the same goal -- to be "regular in the Word" this summer!  I am so excited that you have committed to this discipline.

Some of you have been in the book for awhile, some are just beginning today, and others are still waiting for their book.  There are even others who will still be invited to join in along the way!  Since there is not a schedule, in keeping with the theme of summer, please enjoy the devotions at your leisure and in your own order.  Just enjoy them!

And while you are enjoying them, hopefully this weekly email will inspire you to stay the course -- to encourage that your good intentions now, are played out in your quest to know God just a little better than you do today by taking the time to hear from Him!  Kay suggests in the first devotion that we were created to have an intimate relationship with God and if it is in fact our desire to have that relationship with Him, we must do two things -- set aside time and spend time talking with Him.  That is not too difficult to understand because that is how it is with any relationship -- if you really want to know someone, you must make time for them, and talk with them.  Our Heavenly Father LOVES that we have set out to do just that!

A natural response, as God speaks to us, is to share with others, and I want to encourage you to do that in whatever way you can.  Psalm 40:10 in The Message says "I didn't keep the news of your ways a secret, didn't keep it to myself. I told it all, how dependable you are, how thorough. I didn't hold back pieces of love and truth for myself alone. I told it all, let the congregation know the whole story."  In "telling" it becomes solidified in you and also blesses another.  Share with your spouse, your children, your friends, co-workers, and anyone God puts in your path!  A fairly new way of sharing with another is through a blog.  If you are interested, a blog has been provided at http://blogs.shadowmountain.org/women.

I pray that your time in this book draws you into the Book, and the things you journal on paper become embedded on your heart.  Take this at your own pace and do not race to the finish line -- the learning is in the journey!   I pray the book calls you to your closet and there you find solace for your soul!

Speak to our hearts God - we are listening!

Let's hear from the rest of you -- what are you hoping to get from this study?

When my friend Glenda invited me to join this summer study, I jumped at the opportunity. I've been a Christian since the age of 10--almost fifty years--but there's still so much to learn about the Lord. This morning He reminded me that my focus needs to be on THIS day and not the days ahead.

As I read from Kay's book, I realized that I spend way too much time thinking ahead and too little time praising Him for this very moment, this very hour, this very day. My Bible commentary had a statement that blessed me--"We ought to own the mercies of God."  I love that!  It keeps my focus on how far the Lord has brought me in my faith journey, and makes me excited about what's next.

Looking forward to a summer of inspiration. Thanks, Debbie.

I am anticipating a "summer of inspiration" as well and we are in a great book for that!

Thanks for sharing your "fresh bread" this morning with us!

Who else learned something THIS day????

Love this devotional book and the fact that so many good friends and family are with us on this Summer Vacation, basking in His Truth together. Every day God has spoken to me in some way. The best one so far - for me was "When God is Silent." I wrote in the journal for that day about a time when I felt exactly as Kay had felt when she was crying out to the Lord but she didn't feel His answers or His presence. I was so pleased that she wrote this to encourage others who may be going through that experience and what it means. She said on p.39 - and I underlined it.
"Relying on all that He has said to us in His Word, then we know that even in the silence He is working. And when eventually that silence is broken, the sound of His voice, the awareness of His presence will be glorious."
That is so true. I love studying His Word now -- and even in sorrow I know His joy! His lovingkindness is new every morning!

Glenda, how fun! I still remember the day you showed me your book and we shared the excitement of starting this journey. I am doing the same thing...pouring out my heart-open and honestly to my Jesus! Thank you for sharing. I too am so excited to be on this journey with such an incredible group of women! May the Lord continually be our EVERYTHING!!!

Hi Rosie,

Welcome!!! This quiet time is just what I need, too. This week I read in Speak to My Heart, God some encouragement about God always being on the throne and how we don't need to defend Him and His ways to skeptics. It's the one on page 66. That verse in Hab. 3 means a lot to me. It was the verse that my friend Linda showed me -- and the first time I remembered reading it. It was the verse she clung to as she was dying of cancer, when all the tests kept coming back bad, when she lost all her hair during chemo, when she was planning her funeral -- "Yet . . . I will rejoice in the God of my salvation." She did, and it made all the difference.

I have been so very blessed by the book. Today my Daughter Megan seemed particularly burdened by all the cares of this life and of the feeling of being overwhelmed and at the same time wondering if God was really there. I held her, and then prayed with her and then invited her to look at the section of the book that begs, "what if we don't really feel God is there?"
Such a blessing!

Carolyn, I am so glad that you are being blessed by the book, and also having an opportunity to bless your daughter -- I LOVE the family that God has instituted for us to point to Him!
